Customer Reviews

"We loved it! We showed up at 1pm, didn't know they stopped lunch at 1, and they were so friendly and accommodating! Such a quaint little place, great people and service, and the food is good and the beer is ice cold! I loved seeing all the antiques!"

- Tammy B.

"Been coming here for years, since I was a kid. It hasn't changed and that's perfect. The ribeye is positively enormous. I had to filet and it was great, though the bacon wrap on it needed more cooking."

- Shannon

Such joy and happiness fills your heart with the surroundings! A beautiful gem of American history!! A must stop!! The heartland never had it so good!! "

"Get there when they open for the best chance to get a windowside view of the Des Moines River. Great OLD gristmill now operating as a restaurant for many years. Home cooked food. Generous portions. I had a big smoked pork chop, American fries, salad and potato soup. Hubby had catfish filet with French fries, etc All great! It was his birthday so he received a complimentary scoop of vanilla ice cream delivered with a serenade! Scenic town well worth the trip. More shops are open on Saturday."

- Miss B.

"Very interesting place. The building beams and exposed joists are beautiful in their own way. The food was delicious and the portions are very generous. Just know that if you purchase the beef burger, it's not served with a bun. It's a hamburger steak. The outside is lovely. If you go around closer to the river, there are nice trees, flowers and grape vines. We will be back next time we are in the area visiting family."

- Sarah P.

"So much good food!! No way to leave hungry!! The dinner comes with soup, salad, pan bread and all that before your huge meal comes. The appetizers are all so good! Love the fried green beans. By the time I get through the appetizers, soup and salad I am so stuffed. And then comes the entree. Everything is so amazing. Never had anything bad. Come hungry!!!"

- Rebecca W.

"Good was pretty good and prices were phenomenal. It's a funky, fun place to grab a meal with a good view. Servers and host were friendly and polite, but we had to wait awhile for things like water refills and our check."
